Okay I really liked the ‘Curious Incident of the Dog’. I didn’t expect the twist in it and I found it a good read, though not one I would necessarily picked. Our next one was ‘Swimming with Jellyfish’ by Vicki Hastrich and I didn’t really enjoy it. Our current book is ‘The Drowner’ by Robert Drewe and I have only just started it given that bookclub is next Wednesday I’d better get a move on, but I have to say I am not enjoying it. I tried to read some more last night and found myself unable to remember what I was reading!
Nights in Rodanthe

Well I loved the book, yes I am a romantic at heart. The movie – I wasn’t really a fan. They jazzed it up for Hollywood, with Richard Gere and Dianne Lane. Things happened that didn’t happen in the book and I don’t like it when they don’t stick to the book. Our next book in ‘The curious incident of the dog in the night time’ and it looks interesting. The chapter numbers are all prime numbers.
2010 / 2011

Hello to you all.
I think perfectionism has been what has kept me from being a regular blogger about our little bookclub, but now that I look back on all the previous posts I realise that the things I wrote I wouldn’t have remembered without this blog. So I endeavour this year to keep posting more regularly.
So our Christmas lunch at Bentwood was fantastic as usual and so were our secret santa gifts, with the twist this year being, there was no stealing!! We all travelled up in Nicole H’s car and I sat in the back with Renae. I love our little get together and the fact that we wear dresses (probably one of the only times in a year!)
January we had drinks at Lisa’s beautiful new house, to pick up our book. It was lovely sitting out on the back deck and relaxing, though I doubt our pregnant girls felt that way!
February we met at Mariko’s house after reading her book selection ‘Restless’ by William Boyd. It was about a spy from the war who must complete one final assignment with the help of her daughter. Almost all of us gave it 8/10. Enjoyed a yummy crumble for sweets. Claire dropped in towards the end of bookclub, minus the baby, having just given birth a couple of days ago.
In March we had Claire’s book, but went to Lian’s house instead. She had airconditioning and we were in the middle of a humid heat wave. We read ‘Constance’ by Rosie Thomas and I was the only one who seemed to enjoy it. I read it in a day and was not well, so maybe that’s why. It got as low as 4/10 to my score 7.5/10.
We are about to have our next meeting and it is to be a movie night at Nicole’s watching her pick ‘Nights in Rodanthe’. I have to say I loved the book, I am a romantic at heart……..

This was the last book we read, and it happened to be mine, again! It was surprisingly really good and it was based on a true story. Definitley worth the read. Our next book is Shiver and our next meeting is at Bentwood on December 12 for our Christmas windup.
The Meeting
Posted April 2, 2010 by crayzytalesCategories: We need to talk about Kevin
Well I didn’t plan it very well I thought I still had ages to go but on the Wednesday found myself still with 200 pages to go… Well I had 5 to go when the first of the bookclub ladies walked in the door – so needless to say I was very proud of myself. I didn’t see the twist coming. I think if I had had time to read in the normal way (not speeding!) I would have seen it coming. It definitley gave us some food for thought and we rated it a 7 out of 10. I have allready started the next book which is ‘Mao’s last dancer’ by Li Cunxin (I learnt my lesson, from this last book!)
We need to talk about Kevin
Posted March 24, 2010 by crayzytalesCategories: We need to talk about Kevin
This is my pick again (and I have missed quite a few months in between). I have started it and can I say I am finding it very heavy going. They story is about a high school boy killing students and a teacher and these are the mothers letters to his father. So far she is detailing her relationship with Kevins father and the decision to have a child – Kevin. My fellow bookclubers tell me it does get better as it goes along. Will try to keep you posted
Eragon
Posted November 6, 2009 by crayzytalesCategories: Eragon
We are currently reading Eragon which is my pick for our bookclub! I have already read it – several times and will read it again before our meeting on Wednesday night at my house. I will be interested to see what the girls think! This is our last meeting before our Christmas windup
An Update
Posted July 6, 2009 by crayzytalesCategories: The Turning
I have been a little slack lately and skipped the last book completely! The last book was ‘The Bride Stripped Bare’ by Anonymous. The book was a look at sex in a marriage. We all agreed that it was a good book – easy to read. (The score averaged 7 out of 10) My question for the night was ‘Whose husbands got luckier than they normally would?’ And the answer was yes most of them – mine included!
Our current book is The Turning by Tim Winton. It is actually a collection of short stories. I have just started, but I am finding it an easy read, though I am not sure how the stories all interconnect yet. Our next meeting is on Wednesday 22 July.
The Cloning of Joanna May

We had bookclub on Wednesday at Claires house – she had a beautiful warm fire and these yummy oreo thingys. As for the book – it was interesting – the subject matter was cloning. We did actually discuss some of the book.
Movie Night
Posted May 29, 2009 by crayzytalesCategories: All the Pretty Horses
We had a movie night at Nats for All the Pretty Horses. We couldn’t get her dvd player to play the dvd! Eventually her son (who is about 9 or 10 sorted it out!) I thought the movie would be really good as it starred Matt Damon and Penelope Cruz, but I was completely wrong – it was no better than the book! Very average! Oh well the chocolate was fantastic….. Our next book is The Cloning of Joanna May.
